The Witch Likes Bread

A story about meeting the most delicious meal at the hungriest age of your life ^ ^

When Demi was eight, she found an injured black dog. After she looked after it for two months, the puppy turned into a boy about her age. He said his name was Fabian, but he couldn't remember anything else.

Even when he was still a "dog," Fabian couldn't stand the filthy, messy little cabin Demi lived in. Every day, he'd scrub the floor with his paws, use his mouth to put everything Demi had touched back where it belonged, and then go bathe in the forest stream.

After becoming human, Fabian worked even harder. He learned to mop, cook mushroom soup, bake bread, and grow flowers and potatoes around the cabin. Demi thought he'd make the best housekeeper in the world.

Demi liked patting Fabian on the head and calling him a good puppy, but no matter what, Fabian couldn't turn back into a dog.

One day, half a year later, Demi brought home a rabbit she'd found, but Fabian wasn't there. He had left and never came back.

She saw Fabian again on the day she entered the Oland Magic Academy. The noble prince was throwing a tantrum. Demi looked at him and decided Fabian was no longer a good puppy.
