Wooden Childhood Friend, Young General x Green-Tea Childhood Friend, Fake Concubine
1.
As the only daughter of the bandit chief of Beiman Mountain, Bu Hengjun was the little king of the mountain. Everything she took a liking to, both on the mountain and below it, was beautiful, and she wanted to keep every beautiful thing close by.
When catching birds, she chose the ones with bright feathers. When fishing, she picked the ones with pretty scales.
Until she met someone even more beautiful.
The young master of the Pei family at the foot of the mountain was as lovely as a porcelain doll. The little mole beside his nose resembled a feather, tickling at her heart. Sunlight fell on him, making him seem to glow.
For the first time in her life, she realized that someone could be so beautiful she couldn't even speak.
It was also the first time she learned that not every pretty young man could come home with her.
2.
The Book of Songs says: "Having seen my gentleman, how could I not be glad?"
When Wei Qian first read it, he thought the eight characters were plain. He didn't pause or mark them.
Young scholars preferred ornate phrases. "Having seen my gentleman" was too ordinary, and "how could I not be glad" was even more straightforward.
Later, when he came across that page again, he suddenly thought the question "how could I not" was rather interesting.
Yet even then, he still didn't understand who that "gentleman" was.
Later still.
Bu Hengjun climbed over the wall, carrying the mountain breeze and the scent of plants with her, a handful of wildflowers she'd picked somewhere clutched in her hand. As lively as a fresh green sprout in spring, she was unbearably adorable.
Suddenly, he understood.
3.
On the night of the Lantern Festival.
Wei Qian stood silently by the window, watching Bu Hengjun sneak off.
"Stop right there."
"His Highness asked me to go see the lanterns." Bu Hengjun turned around with her hands behind her back, wearing a mysterious expression.
"We have lanterns at home."
"I'm not going to see the lanterns." Bu Hengjun grinned mischievously, smugly wearing an expression that said, "You wouldn't understand." "I'm going to see someone."
Wei Qian's fingers tightened slightly around his book. After a long pause, he ground out, "Am I a ghost?"
Bu Hengjun was utterly astonished.
"Have you gone mad from studying?"
