A Male Nuwa's Journey to Save His Brother

The sky has the sun and moon, and the earth has yang and yin.

Nuwa should have taken on a female form, like Xihe and Changxi, sisters of the Lunar Star, to follow the path of yin and yang creation. But later accounts of him and Fuxi suddenly entered his mind, crossing the limits of time and space. He lost focus for a moment, and when he came to, his hand had slipped and turned him male.

Well, male it was. After all, both sexes were combinations of yin and yang, and outward gender was not all that important. His big brother was still the same as ever.

But the Heavenly Dao was merciless. Though he already knew everything, he still could not change it. All he could do was watch fate unfold just as it had in that sudden memory: Fuxi still died in the War of the Lich, then fell into the cycle of reincarnation. Nuwa should have been as heartbroken as in his memory, shutting himself away in Nuwa's Cave to wait for his big brother, who would be different after reincarnation, to return. But...

For a moment, he even wondered if he had heard wrong. "...Master, what did you say? Could you say that again?"

The purple-robed Daoist gave his disciple an inscrutable look. "You heard me correctly. The Heavenly Dao is incomplete, and the world is in turmoil. Even if I join with the Heavenly Dao, it will take time to mend it. So your brother's soul accidentally fell outside this world."

"This was the Heavenly Dao's mistake, and you deserve compensation. As long as you find Fuxi's soul, the Heavenly Dao can help bring him back to life."

"Have you made up your mind? Are you willing to go?"

This was... hope that had come too late, an unexpected joy. How could Nuwa refuse?

Trembling, tears streaming down his face, he said, "Of course. I'm willing."

Big brother, I'm coming to bring you home.

Until the immeasurable kalpa arrives, we will never be separated again.
