Fifty years ago, the dying monster Hels escaped from the Domain. It traveled west through forests and over oceans, day and night, driven onward by an enormous fear that wouldn't let it rest.
It only stopped when it heard a baby's cries.
The faint, repeated cries seemed almost magical, forcibly catching hold of the feelers it used to flee.
It approached the source of the crying.
There was a group of baby creatures of an unknown kind...
There were so many that it was shocked. Its own kind could barely reproduce, and every young one was a treasure. Yet every one of these infants had been killed.
It searched its information and learned the creatures were called humans.
It transformed into an ordinary fifty-year-old human woman.
It broke open the dark tower, and countless feelers reached out to scoop up the infants.
"...Hiss... hiss... hiss..." After Hels's form flickered, human words emerged from its mouth. "Hels... you are all Hels..."
It hadn't searched for the answer, and assumed humans, like its kind, all shared a single name.
Fifty years later, monsters run rampant, and humanity struggles to hold on.
An organization called Hels appears out of nowhere.
No one knows where they come from. They are as mysterious as the night.
At the same time, four youths arrive at the front lines of humanity's fight against the monsters.
The tallest youth says, "My name is Hel... Hes. I want to fight. I want to kill every one of those monsters."
She looks only fifteen or sixteen, with strange pupils and strange mannerisms.
Yet she and her companions are the only known beings capable of resisting corruption.
We are Hels, and our mother is also called Hels. If you travel west, you'll first see our bodies, then our rotting fields, and finally our home.
Welcome home, kindred spirit.
