Yong Yunpei is ambushed on his way back to the capital after winning a battle. He's on his way to ask for the hand of the woman he loves when, at death's door, he meets a physician carrying a basket of herbs.
The kind and handsome physician saves him.
Yong Yunpei thinks he's met an immortal, but then the physician says he must repay him by marrying him.
"N-no! I have a woman I love, and I'm about to go back and marry her!"
"Marry who?" the physician sneers. As soon as he finishes speaking, he pours a bowl of medicine down Yong Yunpei's throat. When Yong Yunpei opens his eyes again, he remembers nothing. All he hears is the physician telling him:
"You: my husband. Me: your husband. This place: my home."
Then the physician leaves, as if he can't be bothered to deal with him, and even seems a little disgusted by him.
Yong Yunpei: Huh? I'm a man, yet somehow I've married another man? And... and I'm the one who shamelessly married into his family?!
After finally convincing himself to play along and believe it for now, he is taken by the physician to another manor at the foot of the mountain. There are lots of handsome men there, and they all claim to be the physician's husbands?!
Yong Yunpei breaks down. "Seriously? I didn't just marry into his family, I'm the junior wife?! No way! I may be poor, but I won't give up my pride. I have to become the principal wife!"
The physician looks him up and down. "When your emperor father handed you over to me as compensation, he never said you could be the principal wife. But good luck. Maybe you really can manage it."
