[My Own Take on Strange Tales] [Republican-Era Setting]
Plot:
Shi Yue has been blind since childhood, but not in the traditional sense. He can see far too much. If he weren't blind, it would surely drive him mad.
Before leaving, his master told him to either wrap his eyes in black cloth or wear sunglasses. But with sunglasses, he looked like a street performer playing the erhu, so at five years old, Shi Yue politely declined.
At nine, however, he took charge of the family with an iron fist, at the cost of being blindfolded for the rest of his life.
From then on, everyone in the south knew that the Shi family had a man named Shi Yue, a master at fortune-telling, warding off evil, and reading feng shui, but unfortunately, he was blind.
Until one day, people discovered that Pei Xiao, who had come from Beiping, had become a favored guest of Shi Yue. Pei Xiao was no ordinary man either: escorting goods and treasures, identifying antiques and artifacts, it all came easily to him. The two of them standing together looked just like the Black and White Fiends of the antiques world.
Later, someone who resented them arranged a gathering and invited them to appraise some treasures. But the two of them huddled together and whispered:
Shi Yue: "It's fake. I heard it say it was made just last month."
Pei Xiao nodded too. "Fake. I saw the real thing in the palace hundreds of years ago. I accidentally smashed it a long time ago."
Well, so after all that, you two don't appraise treasures with expertise, you just rely on talent?!
Romance:
On a snowy night, broke and destitute, Pei Xiao was taken home by a blind fortune-teller, who told him, "My name is Shi Yue. I'm your future husband."
At first, Pei Xiao was certain Shi Yue was a fraud. He didn't believe in any destined match predicted by fortune-telling.
But as more and more strange things happened, Pei Xiao gradually realized Shi Yue's fortune-telling wasn't baseless. He also discovered that this little blind man, who seemed stubborn and even harder-hearted, was actually fragile and easily hurt.
One day, holding him close, Pei Xiao kissed his soft lips. "Boss Shi, I believe it now. I must be your destined match."
But Shi Yue blushed and stammered, "...I'm sorry. I just realized my master might have gotten it wrong back then."
Pei Xiao: "Then what do we do? It's our wedding night tonight, you know."
Shi Yue thought for a moment. "...It's okay. I still haven't broken so far... So it should be fine if we just go along with it, right? Oh, and remember to be gentle. I really will break."
[Who says a mix-up can't lead to a destined match?]
