Blurb:
The only daughter of the Sima family, Jing Shu, has never known her father's love or her mother's affection. Being abandoned has always been the norm, and she seems to exude a quiet indifference to death. Now, she is married.
Her husband is Jin Xia, the son of a powerful family, who was once sent to the state of Zhao as a hostage for many years. Rumor has it that his moods are unpredictable.
Since she's here and can't run away, they might as well make do together. At worst, they can go down in flames together, Jing Shu thinks. She never expected that after the wedding, Young Master Xia would treat her extraordinarily well, so well that she began to notice the scent of flowers and the green of the grass, and even feel that perhaps being alive wasn't so bad.
But she still died.
Three years later, Jing Shu returned.
This time, she no longer wanted to live like a confused, soulless shadow. The first thing she wanted to do was find out why her mother, despite having no other children, seemed to hate her so much. With no time to lose, Jing Shu prepared to investigate her mother's past, only to suddenly see her husband, with whom she had always shared a respectful but distant relationship, appear out of nowhere and follow her.
Did she love him? Perhaps she did.
But did that matter? Her own mother had borne her and still abandoned her and treated her with resentment. How much less could she trust something as intangible as love?
Having reassured herself of this, Jing Shu continued investigating. He only followed her more closely.
Then one day, after she brought home a dying man she'd rescued, she saw her once gentle and patient husband change his expression for the first time in front of her.
“Do you truly not want me anymore?”
“Lord Changying, you know our marriage was only a political alliance, not a union of our own choosing. Isn't it best for us to go our separate ways now?”
“Only a political alliance?”
He leaned in to kiss her, while she held his wrist tight, feeling his pulse and thinking, His heart is beating so fast. At this moment, he probably really does love me.
Sigh... If only he could die at the very moment he loves me most.
Plot-focused blurb:
In the thirteenth year of King Yan'an's reign, the allied states of Jiang and Zhao attacked the Kingdom of Yan, the Son of Heaven's realm. They marched north, nearly reaching the capital of Haojing. Their advance was stopped by Sima Ranzhengu of Yan. The reason was that Lord Sima had feigned defeat as a strategic retreat, capturing the families of the allied Jiang and Zhao forces. With every step forward, he killed one captive.
The river ran red with blood, the alliance fell apart, and Yan won a decisive victory.
Years later, history repeated itself.
But this time, the Lord Sima who had once defended the realm intended to seize power and usurp the throne. The only person standing against him was a slight young woman.
His own daughter, whom he had never cared about.
On the battlefield, he seemed to see her clearly for the first time: strong-featured and resolute.
A red-tasseled spear in her hand, she pointed it straight at him and called out, “Father, please give me your best.”
Little scene:
Jin Xia: “Mu Niang, what are you doing now?”
Jing Shu: “Saving someone.”
Jin Xia: “You're the kindest person in the world to me. If you pity me, then pity me all the way. If you suddenly start pitying someone else, what about me? Mu Niang, what am I supposed to do?”
#A story about a heroine finding herself again. There shouldn't be anything too upsetting. Wishing everyone a happy read!
