Hundreds of years ago, a radiation storm swept across the Interstellar expanse, giving some animals the ability to freely switch between human and animal forms.
Bai Shiyue lives on a remote planet, making ends meet by working at a gathering site.
To raise the two cubs he found, Bai Shiyue turns into a fluffy fox after work every day and performs on the street for humans in exchange for more nutritious food.
One day, ill-intentioned humans tail Bai Shiyue. Before he can teach the gang of thugs a lesson himself, a stranger suddenly steps in to help him.
The man is tall and handsome, but what attracts Bai Shiyue even more is the rich scent of bread clinging to his clothes.
The man owns a dessert shop. He's handsome and kind, and all Bai Shiyue has to do is act cute in fox form, wag his fluffy tail, or rub his furry head against the man's palm to get a lavish cake set.
Hit by the sudden windfall of a long-term meal ticket, Bai Shiyue is so happy he could laugh himself awake:

As an Interstellar inspector, Liang Heyuan is sent to a remote planet to investigate the garrison commander’s illegal activities in secret.
Disguised as a dessert shop owner, he happens to help an adorable, soft little fox.
The little fox stares at the cakes in the display case. He's practically drooling with hunger, yet still sits up straight and politely holds his head high, nearly melting Liang Heyuan's heart with cuteness.
The only downside is that the little fox vanishes as soon as he gets his cake, never sparing Liang Heyuan a second glance.
Liang "Meal Ticket" Heyuan, "Useful Tool" Heyuan, feels defeated, but refuses to learn his lesson: What else can he do? Of course he'll keep feeding him.

The investigation isn't going smoothly. It's hard to tell friend from foe, and danger lurks everywhere. Liang Heyuan recruits a young man who works at the gathering site as an informant.
The young man is slight and delicate, yet surprisingly good at fighting.
With a whole group of mercenaries lying silently on the ground, the young man raises an eyebrow with a touch of pride and smiles brightly at Liang Heyuan, who's hurried over. "I've never lost a group fight."
The young man's vibrant smile strikes Liang Heyuan somewhere deep inside, but he pretends to be unmoved.
That is, until Liang Heyuan learns not long afterward that the young man and the little fox are one and the same...
