Qi Yang awakens to the truth and discovers that he's the fourth cannon-fodder top in a melodramatic BL love polygon.
The story's protagonist bottom is his childhood friend, a boy-next-door he's grown up with. He's naturally irresistible, with a delicate, innocent face, and every man in the book falls in love with him.
Three of them are the main tops alone.
Top A is a stern, older man, a sugar daddy who could only exist in a Mary Sue novel. He's a powerful figure in Beijing, with authority to spare. Because Qi Yang's childhood friend resembles his late wife, he plans to take him by force and make him his caged-bird substitute.
Top B is a top-tier star, a rich young heir who wanders into show business on a whim. He has a beautiful, harmless face, but behind the scenes he does nothing but perverted things. He not only seduces his childhood friend, who's working as his assistant, but openly plays out filming fantasies with him. He's a complete wolf in sheep's clothing!
Top C is an obsessive, gloomy stalker, the childhood friend's stepsister's son in name only. Starved of affection for years, he's developed a twisted, forbidden desire for his gentle older brother. Like a rabid dog with no sense of reason, he'll bite off the neck of anyone who dares get close to his brother!
All three know about one another. Away from the childhood friend's eyes, they fight and plot against each other, even trying to kill one another. In the end, they nearly cause a disaster and accidentally kill the protagonist bottom.
As for Qi Yang, this cannon-fodder childhood friend is someone the three of them look down on so much they don't even consider him worth dealing with. But he's had a crush on the childhood friend for ages, and when his lovesick brain takes over, he shields the protagonist bottom from a car accident at the critical moment. Then he dies with bitter regret, as dead as dead can be.
The funniest part is that, at the end, the protagonist bottom is so heartbroken over the death of his friend that the three tops carefully comfort him until he's healed. Then all four of them sleep together in a big bed and live happily ever after.
"…"
Looking at the pathetic, self-deceiving doormat he'd been in the book, Qi Yang, the notorious young tyrant of the capital, looked up at the sky and shouted, "What kind of joke is this?! I'm a straight man!"
*
According to reader feedback, the most heartbreaking part of this book is that the protagonist bottom has a long-unrequited love for someone who's been his ideal since childhood, and still doesn't get what he wants by the end.
Much later, Qi Yang finally escapes the plot's control and says a carefree goodbye to those bastards. But while attending a drinking party, he's cornered in a private room by that supposedly aloof, cold-hearted ideal.
The man's face is bewitching. His cool, distant eyes lower as his tall figure presses Qi Yang into place, leaving him unable to move.
"You don't remember me?"
Qi Yang: ???
P.S. The stepsister's son and the childhood friend aren't blood-related, and they aren't registered under the same household.
