Nonconfrontational Noncooperation [Crime Investigation]

Everything about him suggested that being a rich kid was just a way to kill time, that he was playing at being a wage slave and could walk away whenever he felt like it. This boss wasn't just lazy at work and unprofessional. He also frequented places of ill repute, met with mysterious people, and spoke in riddles... In short, he had to be a bad guy! But he was kind of good-looking. [My new subordinate is a hot-blooded idiot, but I really don't want to work overtime.] A rookie joined the Major Crimes Unit and immediately went all out, devoting himself wholeheartedly to serving the people, solving major cases, and saving the world. But Ye Jinshu was a genius who never put more than thirty percent effort into anything. He hated trouble most of all. Hotheaded rookies were trouble. But teasing this hotheaded rookie was kind of fun. [Actually, they're two poor souls with miserable pasts.] Ran Ji still doesn't know who his biological father is. He only knows that one of his eyes is blue, unlike everyone else's. None of the happiness he has belongs to him. He lives carefully, grateful for everything he has, yet always seems to sense that he'll lose it someday, so he doesn't dare hold on too tightly. Ye Jinshu is still investigating who murdered his mother. There are no rules in his world, and he doesn't trust anyone easily. He'll use anyone and anything he can to achieve his goals. He can handle anyone with ease, and his trick is never to give anyone his heart. [They are each other's exception.] For the first time, Ran Ji felt greed, wanting someone he could hold on to and never let go. He'd long since accepted that he might lose everything he had, but he couldn't bear to lose this person. For the first time, Ye Jinshu was willing to believe. He wanted to place his heart in someone's hands because he thought this person would catch all his anxiety, darkness, and baseness, along with the tiny bit of sweetness hidden among them. [They grow while solving cases, and find the answers to life's questions.] *This is a fictional setting. Everything in the story is made up by me based on reality, so please don't overthink it.
