The number of crimes linked to psychological illness in C City's Binhai District is surging, and the situation is growing increasingly dire. The Major Crimes Unit of the Binhai Branch's Criminal Investigation Division is an elite team established to handle special cases. Shen Que is the unit's deputy leader. Behind a tragedy caused by a hiking fall was a group of desperate young people who had made a pact online to travel hundreds of miles and die together. The case naturally landed in the hands of the Major Crimes Unit. The good news: Deputy Director Liao, a kind man, requested a professional psychiatrist from C Medical University's affiliated hospital to provide backup. The bad news: That backup was Shen Que's ex-boyfriend. Looking at the love and restraint in Xia Simian's eyes, Shen Que felt an inexplicable anger burning inside him. He was the one who'd suggested the breakup. What right did he have to act like an abandoned dog? Then Xia Simian was injured protecting Shen Que, took advantage of his kindness, and asked Shen Que to walk his dog on the way home. Shen Que couldn't be bothered arguing with Xia Simian. He gave their German Shepherd, whom they'd raised together, a practiced command: “Anubis, go fetch the leash.” When they returned from the walk, Shen Que had barely stepped through the door when Xia Simian pinned him against the wall. Shen Que snapped, “Xia Simian, what are you doing?” But Xia Simian merely lowered his head and rested his forehead against Shen Que's shoulder. He murmured, “Shen Que, I brought my leash over, too.” A story about getting back together after a breakup. (Actually, the mirror never broke in the first place.) (Okay, okay, we're all just part of your getting-back-together-after-a-breakup roleplay.) The cases all involve psychological crime. I wanted to explore some of the mental health issues people face today. Everyone's welcome to share their thoughts in the comments. Special thanks to Walden for generously helping translate the English title and the small text on the cover! The side couple in this story, Ran Ji x Ye Jinshu, are the leads of the full-length novel No Cooperation Without Opposition. [Coming soon: Special Police Unit Chronicles, Wei Fengchen x Gu Yiran. Add it to your list for a beautiful love story between a cool guy and a kitty~] *This is a fictional setting. Everything in the story is made up by me based on reality, so please don't overthink it.
