The Rustic Man's Childhood Sweetheart, the Young Husband, Ran Away Again

Ten years after breaking with Tian Er, her childhood sweetheart, Lianzi returns to Qingshui Village.

In those ten years, Tian Er went from a poor farm boy to Boss Tian, a wealthy and influential man.

Ten years ago, Lianzi kicked Tian Er aside without hesitation and married a rich old lord as his concubine. Now she has been thrown out, frail and gravely ill, with nowhere to turn.

The people of Qingshui Village are all waiting for a laugh. They want to see whether Lianzi will swallow her pride and beg Tian Er, and how he will deal with this ungrateful wretch who despised the poor and fawned on the rich.

He ought to at least sneer at her, if not treat her with cold indifference.

After all, when Lianzi was young and tormented by her stepmother, it was Tian Er who carried her home and raised her with the care he would give his own little brother.

Their marriage had even been agreed upon, but Lianzi left with that rich old lord anyway.

Now that Tian Er has brought Lianzi back to the Tian household, everyone assumes he will make her pay dearly.

Lianzi appears before them pale and weak. The villagers are even more certain of their suspicions, but seeing her so frail that a gust of wind could knock her down, they can't help feeling sorry for her.

When Lianzi's father and stepmother forcibly drag him away to sell him to a landlord for money, the villagers can't bear to see it. They find Tian Er, who's busy at work, and ask him to save Lianzi's life for old times' sake.

They never imagined that the usually composed and unflappable Tian Er would lose control like that. He kicked down the door of Lianzi's stepmother's home and nearly beat the landlord to death.

Only later did the villagers learn that after Tian Er brought Lianzi home, he fed and cared for him well, taking great pains with his food, clothes, and lodging, and never missing a dose of nourishing medicine.

He treated Lianzi like a precious treasure. Where was the cruelty in that?
