At the end of the story, several years after his death, Xie Xun reappeared as the biggest villain in the novel, intent on making the protagonist gong and shou pay for Cheng Xingxing's death.

The villain couldn't defeat the protagonists. The protagonist gong and shou got their happy ending, while Xie Xun died in an explosion at sea. And that was the end of the story.

As luck would have it, he woke up six months after he'd started fawning over the protagonist gong, and after he and Xie Xun had already fallen out.
