The Sentinel's Cat Spirit Form I Found

Lin Xu is a sentinel who lost his spirit companion.

Sold to an underground laboratory as a child, he was forcibly separated from his spirit companion. When he was rescued, the companion had escaped, and doctors judged he wouldn't live past twenty.

To pay for treatment to keep himself alive, Lin Xu works hard every day.

Just as he thinks he'll spend the rest of his life working himself to the bone, his long-disconnected spirit companion suddenly stirs. He begins to sense its presence.

At first, there are only simple signals. Then he gradually feels the companion's emotions, and eventually experiences the kind of shared sensation his colleagues call empathy.

Petting, rubbing, and somewhat rough punishment.

His body is getting better, but the unpredictable shared sensations are making his situation a little awkward.

After yet another unexpected caress from the top of his head down his back, Lin Xu finally decides that no matter what, he has to find his spirit companion.

Following their increasingly strong connection, Lin Xu makes his way to the office of the Tower's top commander.

In the office, the commander's gleaming boots rest on the coffee table. A fluffy black ball in his arms is biting his collar and kneading his lap, leaving cat fur all over his immaculate uniform.

The tingling sensation along Lin Xu's back continues, so he has no choice but to speak.

"Sir, could you stop for a moment? That's my spirit companion."

The commander glances up coolly. "How can you prove it?"
