One-Life Speedrun, but in Beika Town

[Back to serial status. It might restart. Note left on 26.9.11]

I'm a horror game streamer. I heard that a horror game called One-Life Speedrun: Beika Town has been really popular lately, so I decided to download it and give it a try.

The opening tutorial told me I was the victim of an upcoming murder, and that I had to figure out the killer based on the clues provided and successfully inform the police within 24 hours, or I'd die.

Sounds easy enough.

With countless gaming hours under my belt, I confidently clicked Start.

But...

Round one: [Unfortunately, your boyfriend caught you trying to escape. You are dead.]

Round two: [Unfortunately, your subordinate caught you discovering his plan. You are dead.]

Round three: [Unfortunately, your best friend caught you trying to call the police. You are dead.]

Damn, I miscalculated. This stupid game really is hard.

In round N+1, after painstakingly escaping from the future crime scene, I immediately rushed to an apartment building and knocked on one of the doors.

A man with tousled curls and sleepy eyes opened it.

“Officer Matsuda, I want to report a crime,” I said gravely. “Someone's trying to kill me!”

Officer Matsuda discovered that a “victim” who kept coming back from the dead had appeared in Beika Town.

The day before, the other person would be a victim, with the relevant documents sitting on his desk. The next day, they'd show up right in front of him, full of life.

Their identity, relationships, and name changed, but their appearance always stayed the same.

And only to him did they always look the same.

At first, Matsuda Jinpei was genuinely terrified.

Later, when he encountered the victim again, he calmly took a notebook from his pocket. “Hanaban, tell me, what clues do you have about the culprit?”
