Being a proper deity is hard. The heavenly rules include three of the Ten Commandments: You must not use magic to deceive mortals, and if you don't grant the wishes they make, naturally they won't keep offering incense.

Luckily, the temple god has a wealthy patron to rely on: the Jiang family of Jingzhao, the most famous tea merchants in the region.

That is, until the illustrious Jiang family, with a hundred years of history, falls overnight. Its sole heir for four generations, Jiang Shu, is sold into slavery and can barely protect himself. The temple god loses his only source of incense offerings, grows desperately hungry, and gradually loses his divine powers.

Fearing he might fall from godhood, the temple god possesses a scholar named Ning Qian. He helps Jiang Shu plot a return to power while using an ancient scroll to restore his own divine powers.
