The Great Writer of 1960s Hong Kong

When Zhong Ruoying wakes up, she's become a pretty young woman in Hong Kong.

A gambling-addicted father, an ailing mother, a brother who gets into fights, a rebellious younger sister, a penniless home, and her, helpless.

All five members of the family squeeze into a home of just over forty square meters, doing everything from eating to sleeping in that tiny pigeonhole.

Hong Kong in the 1960s is in the midst of a flourishing cultural era, with all kinds of novels springing up like mushrooms after rain.

Zhong Ruoying grits her teeth and picks up her pen again, determined to write something earth-shattering.

At first, though, publishers call her submissions shit, not even fit to use as toilet paper.

Later, publishers across the island compete to publish her books.

Some people say all she can write is melodramatic fiction.

Later, they sob uncontrollably over her serious literary works.

Some say her novels will never make it beyond China.

Later, physicists at home and abroad compete to discuss the mysteries of the universe with her.

They call her the queen of romance, an anatomist of human nature, and a colossus of science fiction.
