A recap of what came before (see the previous novel, Winning Over That Great Demon Lord)
After Li Muwan's physical body dissipated, Wang Lin reclaimed her soul essence and forged her a new body. He left Vermilion Bird Planet with her incomplete soul to search for its scattered fragments and bring her fully back to life.
Using his life force, Wang Lin found the location of one of Li Muwan's soul fragments and glimpsed it entering a rift in time and space. To retrieve it, he would have to travel to the fragment's era and erase his memories. Only if the two of them could rekindle their past love and achieve a happy ending would he be able to recover the fragments of Li Muwan's soul scattered across different worlds.
Wang Lin sent his clones into different eras.
Soul Fragment One: Lotus in My Heart
After returning from studying abroad, Wang Lin reunites at a conference with Li Muwan, who has been out of touch for years.
Across the crowd, their eyes meet, as if they had crossed ten thousand years to find each other.
Their memories return to five years earlier.
On the eve of the college entrance exams, the two sit on the school building's balcony. They keep their distance as the setting sun falls across the young man's profile.
Li Muwan picks up her book. The wind brushes her cheek. "Which school are you planning to apply to?"
Wang Lin: "Yujing. What about you?"
Li Muwan: "Me? I haven't decided yet."
The white of her uniform shines in the corner of Wang Lin's eye. "I'll wait for you in Yujing."
Li Muwan gives an almost imperceptible nod. They have never confessed their feelings, yet somehow they both know.
But after the college entrance exams, Li Muwan never hears from Wang Lin again.
A summer evening breeze drifts by. As Wang Lin leans toward her, he spots the lotus-shaped birthmark hidden beneath her bangs in the streetlight. The young man says casually, "That lotus birthmark on your forehead is pretty."
Li Muwan looks up. The light glints silver on his hair, stealing her composure.
Years later, she lies in his arms, tracing the lotus over his heart with her fingertip. "Why is the mark over your heart exactly like the one on my forehead?"
He says nothing, resting his fingertip on her birthmark.
"Wang Lin, do you believe in past lives?"
Wang Lin remains silent, kisses the spot between her brows, and holds her close.
[Reunited after years apart, mutual pining]
Soul Fragment Two: Sparrow in a Cage
Wang Lin is the Prince of Zhao, a vassal lord whose order alone can rally Zhao's armies. Though still a young man barely twenty, he is ruthless and taciturn, always carrying his spear. Everywhere he goes, a mountain of corpses is left behind.
He hears that Sun Zhenwei, Crown Prince of Chu, is to marry Li Muwan, Princess of Yan, in an alliance meant to send their armies marching into Zhao.
Standing beneath the night sky, the young man clutches his spear. He is not surprised by the alliance between the two states, but the moment he hears the Yan princess's name, a murderous gleam flashes in his eyes.
The snowy night Chu falls is also the night of their wedding. Li Muwan walks through smoke and flames in a red dress and kneels before his horse. "General, I beg you. Spare the people of Yan and let my brother live."
His bloodstained spear is planted among the corpses. Cold iron fingers pinch her battered cheek, and she trembles, heartbreakingly fragile.
Wang Lin sits astride his horse, silver hair blowing in the wind. He leans down and wipes away one of her tears with an iron finger. Against the smoke and flames, the jade-faced general's features stand out, his eyes especially clear. Wang Lin taunts her by tasting the tear's salty bitterness. "Trade yourself for them!"
"General..."
"How about becoming this prince's caged bird?"
Li Muwan is taken back to Zhao. In the steamy bath, she sees the young man stripped of his armor and military robes. The mist seems to conceal a murky crimson hue.
He steps into the pool. Hot water rises to his chest, and he calls coldly, "Come here!"
"Attend to me!"
A princess with nothing left to lose vs. a mad, powerful courtier burdened by generations of vengeance
#Two souls on the verge of breaking, testing and drawing from each other at the edge of madness, before learning to trust, entrust themselves to one another, and find redemption...#
[Mad characters, equally matched leads, coercion, redemption]
Soul Fragment Three: A Calamity Written in Fate
After reclaiming the second soul fragment, Wang Lin finds the location of the third. This time, his clone unexpectedly carries his memories with him. He cultivates in another world for three hundred years, finally waiting for the mortal body formed from Li Muwan's last soul fragment.
He raises her with care for eighteen years.
At one, she grabs Wang Lin's finger and puts it in her mouth, babbling "Master."
At two, she learns to run, but is always falling. When she gets hurt, she doesn't cry. She just asks Wang Lin to carry her.
At five, she goes to the neighboring sect to ask the senior disciples to take her flying on their swords. When they bully her, she comes home pretending not to cry. Seeing little Wan'er covered in dirt, Wang Lin gazes at her with concern. "Wan'er, what happened?"
She pouts. "Master, the senior disciple next door hit Wan'er."
Without another word, Wang Lin storms the sect gate to settle the score!
At ten, Li Muwan hugs a soft pillow and knocks on Wang Lin's bedroom door. "Can Wan'er sleep with Master?" She's still little, so Wang Lin agrees and lulls her to sleep.
At sixteen, the girl has blossomed, naturally beautiful.
Li Muwan grows ever more curious about the outside world. She often goes down the mountain to meet disciples from other sects and chat about youthful adventures.
Wang Lin realizes his Wan'er doesn't belong only to him. His feelings, suppressed for years, become harder to control. The man who has always been proper and reserved grows increasingly irritable, jealous, and taciturn.
Li Muwan doesn't understand why her master has changed. She senses a hard-to-describe possessiveness in him.
"You've been going out a lot lately. What have you been doing?"
"The senior disciples from the neighboring sect invited Wan'er to watch their Immortal Path Tournament."
"Was it fun?"
"Yes!"
"They said Wan'er must get bored spending all her time with Master."
"Do you?"
"No. They're not right about everything. They also say Master is an old monster, but Master isn't old at all. He's more handsome than anyone."
"Wan'er, stay by Master's side."
She looks at the face that has remained as gentle as jade for three hundred years. Sitting beside him, her sleeve brushes his nose. "Master, I'm not going anywhere."
Wang Lin feels her warm breath and remembers Li Muwan, whose soul was incomplete, spending five hundred years with him in that secret realm beyond Vermilion Bird Planet. Seeing the lively, playful girl before him, his heart bleeds. He suddenly grabs her wrist, pulls her into his arms, and kisses her with wild, senseless abandon.
Frightened, Li Muwan pushes him away, tears in her eyes. "Master, what's wrong? I'm Wan'er."
"Wan'er, I'm Wang Lin..." His eyes redden at the corners. He is in agony.
#They don't want you. I do.#
#I came to this life for her alone.#
[An easygoing story of raising a child, featuring adorable little Wan'er and her moody "old monster" of a master]
Reader's notes:
1. Begins in August. The entire novel has been written and archived with screenshots as of March 1, 2025.
2. Lots of author-invented details. Don't overanalyze.
3. My writing has its limits, and all the characters are OCs, especially in Sparrow in a Cage (though it's my favorite). Please be especially careful before reading this one!
Theme: Lin Wan, Forever
I cried when I saw Brother Mazi endured the thunder tribulation for Wan'er and turned into a clay figure. This time he finally protected Wan'er 😭 😭 but he couldn't. If Wan'er was awake, she would not want to see the master bear the thunder tribulation for her. Just like the way of heaven in World War II, if Wan'er didn't take the initiative to step out of the formation, Mazi would definitely They will persist until they are beaten to death, otherwise they will not give up against Heaven. No matter which side Lin Wan is on, each other is the first choice 😭 😭 😭 Fortunately, Wan'er saved her master. Brother Mazi is waiting for Wan'er in another world, and Wan'er is waiting for Brother Mazi here. It feels so fateful 😭 😭
Lin Wan is destined to coexist, and she hopes that the couple will be happy no matter what life they live in. In this chapter, I cried when I saw Wang Lin turn into a stone statue, and Wan'er turned into a dragon to protect Wang Lin from his origin for hundreds of years. In the original work, Wang Lin was picked up by Green Tea, but here Wan'er rescued him personally, which was very satisfying.
I really like [Good Luck Lotus] and I have always felt that the Yun Tian Sect should be Wan'er's deity who has been in charge for a hundred years, and the Chu Kingdom has been promoted to the fourth level cultivation country. Thank you for writing this ending! So well written! Wang Lin Wan'er went to Tianyun Star to practice and upgrade to find her brother. She is also looking forward to it! Will she write this new article? 🌈😍
I really like this article, and I was very surprised when I saw the follow-up episode. My wife wrote an artistic conception that is unique to Wan'er, and I really feel that if Wan'er can practice peacefully, the artistic conception will be almost the same as purification. Thank you, my wife, for fulfilling my wish. I really like my wife's writing style. I will always support you [Spread flowers][Spread flowers][Spread flowers]
If Wan'er wears that little clothes, Mazi won't be able to collapse 😏
Once you put on this little coat, the drug store will have to be closed for at least three days 🐶
After watching the third life, although the ending is he, but the strong feeling of be is still not over. In the extra episode, there is a sweet Lin Wan crying and crying [Purple Sugar] kswl
[Orange Candy] I tried it. I like it so much. It's so sweet.
I can't bear to part with it. Of course, this one is over. Let's start the next one soon! Don't be tired and don't be idle
Amidst the warmth and ordinary smoke and fire in the human world, the bloody storm of the world of immortality and Taoism has arisen again. In the wife's writings, there is always Lin Wan's deep love for each other, standing beside each other and moving forward together. So satisfying!
