During graduation season at age fifteen, Minazuki Mio was told by her doctor that she had at most one year left to live.
Her quiet but happy life would come to an end in a year.
Are you kidding me?
For the first time, Minazuki Mio felt what it meant to be unwilling to give up. Just then, something calling itself a "System" asked if she was willing to do anything to stay alive.
"Of course!"
...The next day, after saying that, she opened her eyes to find that she had suddenly grown taller, and that something had appeared on her body that absolutely should not have been there.
Minazuki Mio, who had suddenly turned into a boy: ?
"If you earn enough volleyball points, I can cure your illness. Now, join the boys' volleyball team at the high school you're about to enter, and reach the top of the national tournament with your teammates!"
Mio, a literary girl who had never tried any kind of ball sport before: ???
Wait, she said she would do anything to survive, but being forced to switch genders and play volleyball? What kind of supernatural development is this?!

Minazuki Rei of ■■ High School is a legendary figure in Japanese high school volleyball.
They say he had never even touched a volleyball before high school. But ever since his friend dragged him to try out the volleyball club on the first day of freshman recruitment, every match he has played has ended in a shutout, without exception.
A veritable tyrant of the court, the "Absolute Zero" who cannot be defeated.
But what truly earned him the name "Demon Asura" was not his outstanding volleyball skills. It was the overwhelming obsession that seemed to take physical form and envelop the court whenever his opponents looked at him:
[If you get in the way of me staying alive, you can die.]
After witnessing the terrifying sight of the polite, bookish boy off the court turning feral in an instant on the court, Minazuki Mio's rival schools cried:
"Don't come near meeeee!"
Reading Guide:
1. A story about a volleyball prodigy who had no idea she was talented before ever touching a volleyball, and is forced to switch genders and play in order to survive. I got the idea after watching Haikyu!! and started writing in a burst of enthusiasm. It won't be too long. I haven't named the heroine's school in the blurb because I haven't decided where she'll go yet. I'll add it once I figure it out.
2. Although the heroine has a terminal illness, this is essentially a story about high schoolers having fun playing volleyball. The heroine is usually a literary type (?), but turns into a battle maniac when volleyball points are involved.
3. The heroine's name is "Mio" in both her male and female forms, but it's read as "Mio" when she's a girl and "Rei" when she's a boy. Once she recovers, she'll turn back into a girl.
4. I'm just an amateur volleyball fan. I've never played in a match and don't watch many real-life volleyball games. Everything I know about volleyball comes from the Haikyu!! anime. If I get any details about volleyball wrong, please point them out.
5. The bonus chapters will have different male leads for different endings. Which ones will depend on how the story develops. In the main story, when the characters are in their male forms, everyone is just happily playing volleyball together.
