(Currently stockpiling chapters. The outline has grown too long, and while writing, I realized my current skills aren't quite up to it and the story risks falling apart halfway through. I plan to write two other books to improve my craft before returning to this one. The chapters currently available are a preview.)
Merada is a pure-blooded human from Earth. After accidentally transmigrating to another world where gods exist and impulsively joining a band of heroes bent on defeating an evil god, she unsurprisingly lost her second life at the very end.
To her surprise, two thousand years later, she awoke once more in an unfamiliar body. The one who finally roused her was the long-overdue golden finger: the [Otherworld Infrastructure-Building System]. As long as she completes the main quests issued by the System, she can make any wish she wants at the end.
Merada (bewildered): Infrastructure-building in another world? You mean this world, whose technology is even more advanced than the one I came from?
Two thousand years ago, Merada was supposed to use the System to lead the people of an ancient otherworld toward a better life. Looking at the highly developed civilization before her now, she couldn't imagine what kind of infrastructure-building she could do in this world to complete her quests.
After learning that this world's original supernatural power, [Arcane], had faded into the hidden world beneath modern technology along with the disappearance of the gods and the retreat of the mysterious, and that its traditional methods of transmission had gradually fallen into decline, Merada finally came up with a brilliant idea.
"If infrastructure-building is what I need to do, then I'll start by building an Arcane school from the ground up. It is our duty to restore Arcane to its former glory!"
And so, before long, the [Euyas Academy], devoted to teaching Arcane, rose like a star at the boundary between the everyday world and the hidden world, eventually illuminating the long night that had fallen since Arcane's decline, when its former glory was lost.
Whenever anyone at the Academy was asked what they thought of the institution and its founder, after a moment of silence they would invariably recite the Academy's motto:
"Per aspera ad astra."
Through hardship to the stars.
There is no torch in this world. She is the hope of all.
Reader's Guide:
1. A female-led infrastructure-building story, a long-form novel about starting from scratch and becoming the head of a magic school in a modern Western-style world. The heroine's background is quite complicated, with many foreshadowed details that will all be revealed in time. Important: The male lead died two thousand years before the story begins and lives on only in the heroine's memories as her beloved ideal. Romance doesn't take up much of the story, but it is definitely there!
2. An extremely slow-burn, slice-of-life story with a broad ensemble cast. It follows the first class of students from enrollment to graduation, but the entirety of Volume 1 covers preparations for founding the school. The story includes many scenes from the perspectives of teachers and students that help flesh out the heroine, as well as worldbuilding supplements in the author's notes due to limited space. These include various occult concepts invented by the author, introductions to the world's geography and cultures, character details that won't appear in the main text (an official guidebook, so to speak), and everyday scenes.
3. The Academy's motto comes from a Latin proverb.
4. Some of the inspiration for the Arcane in this story comes from D&D. It is a form of magic, with some science-related elements, but you can think of it as magic. The story explains why it isn't called magic.
5. Due to the worldbuilding, many nonhuman races with very different values will appear, and some of the settings may be hard for human readers to accept. Please proceed with caution if this bothers you.
