1.
Lu Huaige, a carefree rich kid who had never taken anything seriously, never believed in love at first sight.
Then, on an unlucky first day of school, he sprained his ankle and forgot his umbrella. A girl held one over him and said in a completely emotionless voice, "I can't hold you up, but you can walk slowly."
Lu Huaige's heart skipped a beat. In that little pause, a gentle breeze blew in without end. Her name was Yue Xing.
Yue Xing was too cold, but luckily Lu Huaige had warmth to spare.
On Yue Xing's eighteenth birthday, he happily rushed over with a cake, only to stumble upon all the misery in the girl's life once again: her mother had died, her father was in prison, and the aunt she was staying with only reluctantly provided her with food and shelter in hopes of getting something back from her in the future.
Lu Huaige lit the candles, protecting Yue Xing's pride as he said lightly, "Happy birthday, Yue Xing! Birthday wishes always come true. Wish for me to get a hundred points more, okay? Close your eyes and make a wish!"
The moment Yue Xing closed her eyes, two tears slid gently down her cheeks. It was the first time anyone had celebrated her birthday, celebrating the day she came into this world.
"Give me a home." That was Yue Xing's wish.
"Okay." That was Lu Huaige's solemn promise.
Later, Yue Xing left without warning, leaving behind nothing to show she had ever been there except a photograph.
2.
Ten years later, Lu Huaige saw Yue Xing again on a vast grassland far from the city.
Yue Xing had become a lawyer. The sharpness in her eyes had softened, and when she saw him, she blurted out, "Long time no see."
How could she just show up like that, with no explanation, no apology, not even a trace of affection? Lu Huaige shot Yue Xing a cold look and stormed out.
He would never like Yue Xing again. Otherwise, he'd really become her dog.
One night beneath a sky glittering with stars, Yue Xing sat beside him and rested her head on his shoulder. "Lu Huaige, you said birthday wishes always come true. Does the wish I made when I was eighteen still count? Give me a home."
What was that supposed to mean?
But Lu Huaige still gave her the same solemn answer: "Okay."
Lu Huaige still loved Yue Xing. In the end, he couldn't tell whether that instant of heart-fluttering excitement had won out, or whether the ache of loving her for so long had simply become a habit.
"I hope that one day I can see you again and proudly tell the sky, I was carried here by your wind."
