|"Even the most competitive child, I held close in my arms."
|Table tennis prodigy, left-handed, born under the Ziwei star vs. the ultimate Grand Slam champion
|A pure-hearted girl who's a little wild on the court and a little spacey off it vs. a black-hearted guy who keeps a straight face while washing his wife's training clothes
When Sui Fengran joined the national team at fourteen, the first person to greet her was Shen Dingcheng, fresh off winning the World Cup men's singles title.
Later, Sui Fengran often wondered when she'd fallen for Shen Dingcheng.
She had many answers, but none of them ever felt right.
It was the muddled confusion of adolescence, a young girl's feelings she couldn't explain. Even a glance at his back was enough to make her look away guiltily.
Then, when she turned eighteen, Shen Dingcheng approached her. "Sui Fengran, I've watched you play for a long time. How about we try playing mixed doubles together?"
Her eighteenth birthday present was a mixed doubles gold medal that belonged to her and Shen Dingcheng.
From then on, the gaze that had once looked up at him was level with his, and their level gazes met.
They walked together through the snowy Temple of Heaven apartments, through the training hall where balls lay scattered across the floor, through the roaring spectator stands, and all the way to the highest podium.
- A not-so-serious little scene -
"I really should've returned that shot today." Sui Fengran was still reviewing the day's final, even though she'd already won.
Shen Dingcheng lowered his head. His warm breath brushed her ear as he gently bit her earlobe. "Fengran, it looks like I'm not doing a very good job. You're still getting distracted at a time like this."
Sui Fengran quickly shut her mouth. "Okay, okay, I won't say anything."
In the midst of their tender intimacy, Sui Fengran suddenly felt a pain in her shoulder. She opened her eyes and saw a row of faint bite marks.
Shen Dingcheng didn't stop moving. "That's your punishment for getting distracted."
