Blurb One: Jiang Nan was once the dazzling Crown Prince of Chu, but instead of being content with his position, he chose to become a demon. After turning demonic, Jiang Nan slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent civilians. The gods of the celestial realm had to join forces to seal the fiend away in some unknown barren mountain.
A thousand years later, a little tangerine fell into the cave where Jiang Nan was sealed. By a strange twist of fate, it absorbed the magic power sealing Jiang Nan and broke the seal.
Once freed, Jiang Nan planned to live a quiet, secluded life. But not only had he lost his powers, his heart would start twisting with pain whenever he strayed too far from the little tangerine. Jiang Nan had no choice but to use his life-saving spell, "Live and Die Together," on the unwilling little orange spirit. Now the tangerine had to stay by his side and protect him. Jiang Nan also took advantage of the little spirit's desire to ascend to keep him in line.
Before they had gone very far, Jiang Nan ran into one of his former subordinates, who wanted him to come along. On top of that, one wave after another of people intent on killing Jiang Nan or making him serve them kept cropping up. With no other choice, Jiang Nan took the little tangerine to the ruins of the Chu royal palace to retrieve his old sword for protection.
The little tangerine was reluctant, but his life was tied to Jiang Nan's, so he had no choice but to go with the great fiend. He certainly didn't give the fiend a friendly look along the way.
But why had the little tangerine been acting so strangely ever since he came out of the illusion? Before, he would have stayed eight hundred meters away from Jiang Nan if not for the "Live and Die Together" spell. Now he was constantly clinging to him, holding and cuddling him. What kind of stunningly beautiful immortal maiden had the little tangerine married in the illusion, that he still couldn't stop thinking about her after leaving it? Was he so lovesick that even Jiang Nan, someone he had always disliked, could make him forget his troubles for a while?
At last, the two confessed their feelings. When Jiang Nan fought his enemy to reclaim his old sword, the enemy tried to drive a wedge between him and Zhou Xi. "Do you know why Jiang Nan keeps you by his side? Because if he gets too far away from you, his heart twists with pain, and he might even cough up blood and die."
Zhou Xi: "Well, that's just wonderful... He'll never get to be with anyone else."
Blurb Two: Crown Prince Jiang Nan had enjoyed good fortune from the day he was born. If nothing went wrong, he would inherit the throne of Chu, and under his rule, the kingdom would only continue to prosper.
But something did go wrong. When Jiang Nan was fifteen, the gods sent down a heavenly punishment upon the mortal realm. The people made offerings and sacrifices, but nothing helped.
Jiang Nan selected talented people with merit from among the mortals, hoping they could take the place of the self-important gods.
But Jiang Nan failed. Some of those he chose betrayed him and joined the gods, while others died at the gods' hands.
For the sake of the people still suffering in dire straits, Jiang Nan chose to become a demon.
A demon is still a demon. For thousands of years, people had eagerly pursued immortality, but no one had ever rushed to become a demon.
Jiang Nan lost control. He personally killed the people who supported and followed him. By the time he came to his senses, it was too late.
Jiang Nan gave up. Everything he had done had come to nothing.
He wanted to die, but couldn't, so he willingly let the gods suppress him. How he wished there were someone who could always stay by his side and be someone he could rely on.
And so, Zhou Xi was born.
Everything in this world came into being through the will of Heaven. Zhou Xi alone was created by Jiang Nan.
Bonus Scene:
Fake Taoist: "Exorcism talismans for sale! Buy one of my exorcism talismans and any demon or monster you stick it on will be obliterated!"
Zhou Xi: (lowering his voice) "Can your talisman really obliterate any demon or monster?"
Fake Taoist: (thumping his chest) "Of course!"
Zhou Xi: "Even the great fiend Jiang Nan?"
Fake Taoist: "Absolutely!"
Zhou Xi: "I'll take one... No, two!"
That night...
Jiang Nan: "If you wave that stupid talisman at me again, you're sleeping outside!"
Zhou Xi: "You're scared, aren't you? Now kneel and apologize, and I might let you off..."
(Sounds of Zhou Xi getting beaten up)
