The Hostage Prince Comes from Afar

Yuwen Anye is no heaven-blessed prodigy. He owes his position as Crown Prince to his elder brother, who traded his military achievements for it. You could search through the history books and barely find another case like it. He once asked his brother why he insisted that he become Crown Prince. His brother told him that only this way could their mother and sister live out their lives in peace. It was his responsibility.

But his brother miscalculated. The people his brother had protected killed him, and Yuwen Anye was sent to Qi as a hostage. For his mother and sister's sake, he chose to work with General Jin of Qi.

After arriving in Qi, everything seems different from what he had imagined.

General Jin petitions the throne to let Yuwen Anye live in his residence. Even when Yuwen Anye is forced to wear the cuckold's hat, with his fiancee bearing another man's illegitimate child, the general grits his teeth and accepts the child as his own.

The general claims to be devoted to Yuwen Anye, but Yuwen Anye doesn't believe in affection that comes from nowhere. As long as he's useful, he won't be abandoned.

Later, the general ascends the throne and wants to marry him as his empress. But that's against the rules!
