Blurb:
When he was bound to the "Luminary" System, the Host gong thought he'd be acting as a life mentor.
The System said: [Your mission is to help each world's protagonist reach the top. Once you succeed, you'll be granted a new life.]
The Host gong nodded. Got it, a leveling-up story.
Then the System updated and developed a bug.
Now it stammered: [Um... Host, there was a little accident...]
The Host gong looked down at his uncontrollably tearful eyes and listened to the notification about his body flooding with tears whenever his heart rate went over a hundred. He fell silent...
The System said: [B-but it's not a big deal! I believe you can complete the mission through your own abilities!]
The Host gong said, "I only have two questions."
The System said: [Go ahead?]
The Host gong said, "Is this illness fatal? Can it be cured?"
The System replied in a trembling voice: [It isn't fatal, but... it can't be cured!]
The Host gong said, "...What the heck?"
And suddenly, things took a bizarre turn
[World One: The Top Enforcer Is Still in Tears Today] [Jin Ye*Mo Changque]
-A stoic, blood-without-tears enforcer gong forced to become a crybaby VS a powerful underworld boss who's a smiling snake on the surface but sincere toward the gong-
I was the sharpest blade at the side of the Mo family's young master. I wielded cold weapons with astonishing skill, and my strikes were lethal.
Until I was forced to develop a condition that made me uncontrollably cry whenever my heart rate went over a hundred.
My mission target, the Mo family's eldest son, appeared to be a smiling snake but secretly controlled the underworld. Looking at the corpse I'd just slit-throated, its shirt soaked with tears, he narrowed his eyes, his tone scornful and dangerous. "Couldn't bring yourself to kill someone like him?"
"Or are you mourning his death?"
"You have terrible taste."
Me, whose tears poured whenever my heart rate went over a hundred: "...Let me explain."
He smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling, and chuckled. "No need to explain. You're pretty cute when you cry."
Me: "..."
Mom, there's a pervert!
[World Two: The Guard Captain Is Far Too Delicate] [Xie Fengdeng*Lin Xihe]
-A fearless, pain-enduring guard gong forced to act frail and cry out in pain VS a prince who seems dark and ruthless but is secretly a cunning wolf in sheep's clothing-
I was the most loyal captain of the guards at the seventh prince's side, and I never flinched at fire or blade.
Until I was forced to develop a condition that made me ten times more sensitive to pain.
To keep up his playboy image, His Highness ordered me to pose as his "favorite attendant."
At the Hundred Blossoms Banquet, he pulled me into his arms in front of everyone. His hand had barely touched my waist when I trembled all over and sucked in a breath. "Your Highness, you're hurting me."
The whole room fell silent.
His hand froze in midair. His gaze was unreadable. "I never expected the captain of the guards to be such a good actor."
Me: "..."
Who are you calling an actor? I really am in pain!
[World Three: The Live-In Son-in-Law Has a Split Personality] [Shen Lian*Jiang Lingze]
-A genuine, straightforward live-in son-in-law gong forced to play someone with a split personality VS a rival from a Korean-webtoon-style corporate dynasty-
I married into the Jiang family and played a gloomy, timid loser, with a thick fringe over my eyes and black-rimmed glasses sliding down my nose.
Until I was forced to develop a condition that made my personality switch at night.
By day, I was a craven, submissive live-in son-in-law.
At night, I took off my glasses, unbuckled my belt, and cornered the refined heir to the business empire against the wall.
His breathing was ragged and his collar hung loose. For the first time, he looked utterly helpless.
I tilted my head with a smile and ran my fingers over his hot ear.
"Didn't you say I embarrassed you during the day?"
"So who's begging whom now?"
[World Four: The Liar Tells the Truth in Every Sentence Today] [Meng Chun*Song Yi'an]
-A compulsive liar forced to tell the truth in every sentence VS a cool-headed hypnotist who can see through people at a glance-
I made my living through lies, and my deceit was second to none.
Until I was forced to develop an incurable condition that made it impossible to lie.
Facing the hypnotist who could spot a lie at a glance, I opened my mouth and said, "You have such long eyelashes."
"Your collarbones are sexy."
"I want to kiss you."
He calmly pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses and pinned me to the examination chair. "Keep talking."
"I'm listening."
[World Five: The Coach Is So Tired He Just Wants to Lie Flat] [Tang Yi*Wei Lang]
-An unusually energetic but frail coach forced to complain of exhaustion VS a hot-tempered basketball player who wants to win a championship-
I was a basketball coach, once a madman on the court.
Until I was forced into a state of constant fatigue.
The hot-tempered star player who never took orders cornered me in the equipment room.
"Is that all you've got? You were pretty fierce when you were training me."
Exhausted, I slid down the wall and sat there, my voice weak. "Don't mess around. Let me lie down for a while."
He stared at my flushed face and limp hands, then suddenly dropped to one knee, his voice hoarse. "Then... I'll carry you back."
"I'll win the championship one day. You can just lie there and watch."
Watching the protagonists fall for the Host one after another and become completely unable to help themselves, while the Host somehow completed his missions through his "illnesses," the System's database was in disarray. [Th-this doesn't count as deviating from the main plot, does it?]
I wiped away my tears, rubbed my aching waist, and spoke from the heart. "Could I get a more comfortable illness next time there's a bug?"
"Maybe... a rich person's disease? A kept-man syndrome?"
