I Became the County Magistrate in a Famine Year

[Idealistic Doer × Mad Fate-Chosen Ruler]

Jiang Jianlu transmigrated into the daughter of a disgraced female official in the Great Jing dynasty.

At a time of crisis, she was exceptionally appointed county magistrate of Yongan County.

At the time, Yongan County was ravaged by drought, and its granaries stood empty. Bandits eyed the town hungrily from outside its walls, while wealthy locals drove up the price of rice within.

Thirty dan of aged, coarse rice and five hundred starving refugees on the brink of death: that was all she had to her name.

She devised a plan to deal with the bandits, stabilized grain prices, and personally led the people in digging canals to bring in water and reclaim farmland. Bit by bit, she tore apart the web of interests that had held sway over the region for years, transforming what had once been a dead town into a prosperous place bustling with life.

Unexpectedly, an order of demotion arrived from the capital at the county office, declaring, "How can a woman govern?"

The townspeople were devastated. Carrying the elderly and leading their children, they crowded the steps of the county office, weeping and begging her to stay.

A thousand li away, in the Golden Throne Hall,

The Grand Princess fixed her gaze on the weary emperor before her. "You don't want a genius like her? Then I do!"

That year, a great drought left no crops to harvest, and the countryside was strewn with the dead.

In the fields, someone saw a white egret skim over the cracked riverbed.
