A Tribal Elephant's Farming Journal

Across the endless grasslands, a herd of elephants was on the move.

Along the way, a mother elephant gave birth to a calf.

The scent of blood drifted on the wind. Lions and tigers across the plains caught it, and howls rang out in every direction.

When Zayi opened her eyes,

she found herself transformed into a newborn elephant.

Her mother, aunts, and grandmothers formed a circle, protecting her completely.

Later, they found a place rich in water and lush grass, and decided to build a home there.

Zayi called on everyone to grow their own crops,

so they wouldn't have to keep migrating in search of food.

Elephants can't farm? Who says so?

Dalu's tusks could be made into plows, the wild buffalo could pull them to till the land, the little monkeys could sow seeds, and Ganya could catch the bugs.

Well, Ganya was a little emerald-green bird with a rather big beak who always perched on an elephant's back.

No fertilizer? You should've said so sooner.

The hippo family next door produced dozens of tons of fertilizer a day. Invite them to stay with the tribe for a few days, and there you go!

And... Bampo could help block the river with mud, while the rhinos packed down the soil to form raised field boundaries.

Only the hyena family had a no-good fellow named Hakan, with thinning fur on his back, a chunk missing from his left ear, and a twisted grin.

He was always hanging around behind them.

Every time he opened his mouth, it was: "Heh heh heh... hand over the food!"
