Fu Xingye lived in an ordinary family of five: a stay-at-home mom, a dad who had given up on life and liked fishing, a career-focused older brother, a rebellious older sister with a cold expression, and himself, a well-behaved and sensible boy.
Between the fishing nut, the workaholic, and the rebellious sister, the family could barely get all five around the dinner table. It was often just Fu Xingye and his mom staring at each other. Though they were a family of five, the other three seemed to have vanished.
Then, in his second year of high school, a comic book fell from the sky, complete with a system cheat. It coldly informed him of one fact:
His stay-at-home mom, on the day he moved into the school dormitory, had hummed a tune, transformed into a colossal crimson dragon that blotted out the sky, and flown loops around the coastline, leading the Dragon-Slaying Organization and the Tribunal on a wild goose chase for three days and three nights.
His dad, who claimed he was going night fishing but was actually wearing a black mask and cloak, had become [Black Tide], the morally ambiguous No. 3 on the Alliance's wanted list. In the middle of the night, he killed five super-criminals in a row and shot straight to the top of the trending charts.
His older brother had started his own business and worked his way up to become the Tribunal's second-in-command, an S-rank newly appointed Chief Law Enforcer. In a white coat and mask, he was so intimidating that the extraordinary beings in the surrounding area didn't dare make a peep as he cut them down.
His rebellious, cold-faced sister was dating a blond guy from an offshoot of the neighboring magical world. The karaoke place she went to was the headquarters of the neighboring Ministry of Magic. The calls she answered came from members of the Extraordinary Alliance, who couldn't even catch wanted criminals and had the nerve to ask them to cross jurisdictions and do it for them. And then she'd throw in a curse about the "meddlesome" Tribunal.
Of a family of five, four had secret, mysterious identities. Only Fu Xingye was an ordinary, well-behaved, pitiful high school student, working himself to the bone every day for one extra point.
Fu Xingye: I'm sorry to be living in this monster household as an ordinary person. (shocked.jpg)
System: [Actually, it's worse than being ordinary. In the original comic storyline, you were the tool used by countless villains to kidnap, threaten, torture, and abuse, forcing your family to make certain choices. Readers would also insult and mock you from outside the story for dragging everyone down. Eventually, the author ran out of ideas, killed you off, and ended the comic badly. So I've arrived hoping that, in the revised edition, you can stay away from every dangerous person and event, be cautious, and survive, rewriting the comic's disastrous ending.]
Fu Xingye: ...
Three seconds later, he tore up the comic.
System: (piercing scream.jpg)
Fu Xingye said sarcastically: Do you think readers won't complain about a setting where I'm the little prince who runs away?
System, dejected: [Is there anything else we can do?]
"There is."
Fu Xingye smiled. "Actually, I've had a dream for a long time. System, the world is so big. I want to rule it."
System: ...? Wait, you... (horrified)
#Wait, is this what they call a rebellious phase?!#
*
And so,
When readers saw the revised comic at first:
[? No way, is this for real? It's exactly the same as the first version! What did they even fix... Wait, why is the Puppet kissing the deadweight on the forehead? Was that scene in the original version?]
[Holy crap, the Puppet, the Gardener, the Agent... Why are the supervillains from the first version all obsessed with the little deadweight...? Hold on, did the plot-driving tool just transform into a succubus little prince? Author, you son of a... (curse) (curse)]
[Good news: The foreshadowing for why all the supervillains are obsessed with Fu Xingye has paid off. He's "catnip" specially designed to attract supervillains. Bad news: Author, let's see you dare kill off this newly popular succubus! (amused)]
Later, the readers:
[Huh? The succubus little brother deliberately walked into the trap? Huh? He's using the supervillains to spark a battle between good and evil, so he can wipe out... Wait, wipe out every extraordinary being in the world?! Hey, little bro, who gave you an idea like that!?]
[Well, well, the succubus little brother has successfully joined the family of monsters with secret identities.]
[All I want to know now is, who in this family will be the first to realize that their sweet, sensible, adorable youngest son/little brother has become a supervillain with nothing on his mind but destroying the extraordinary beings, and has actually started putting his plan into action? (munching popcorn)]
[Wait, am I really the only one who's fallen for Xiao Ye? The kitty who secretly gets up to no good, then comes home and acts sweet and adorable, is just so cuddly...]
