Matsuda's Anywhere Door Journey

Seventeen-year-old Matsuda was woken by a string of phone rings.

"If I die, Jinpei, you have to avenge me."

That was what the person on the other end of the phone said.

Still half asleep, Matsuda glared as he picked up the phone and decided to go to his childhood friend's room to ask what on earth had gotten into him in the middle of the night.

But the moment Matsuda opened the door, it seemed the world outside had exploded.

Matsuda slammed the door shut. "..." He must not be awake yet.

Matsuda opened the door again.

His childhood friend, who was a year older, was still holding the phone. He stared in surprise at the pajama-clad young Matsuda standing outside the door.

And then the world outside exploded again.

Matsuda: "..." He must still be dreaming.

Matsuda opened the door once more, and the scene outside reassembled again.

His childhood friend was still holding the phone, his voice hesitant. "...Jinpei?"

But before long, his childhood friend exploded again.

Matsuda: "..."

Matsuda gripped the doorknob, convinced he was dreaming. Otherwise, how could there be a magic door in front of him that connected to some unknown time and place, yet couldn't be destroyed by the world outside?

The next day, he complained to his childhood friend about the dream. His friend asked curiously, "So, Jinpei, how did you finally escape the dream?"

Matsuda: I went through the magic door, then beat up the you in my dream.

Hagiwara: That's a pretty brutal solution!

Matsuda never imagined that one day at the police academy, on his way back to the dorm, he would see the magic door again.

This time, behind the door was a rooftop.

The door swung open. A gunshot rang out, and the fellow student he'd met at the academy died on the rooftop.

Matsuda: "..." This again?!
