Blurb:
Zhong Yu arrived at a crime scene to handle a case, never expecting to become a victim herself, killed by a serial murderer.
When she opened her eyes again, eight years had passed. Everything had changed, and her ears were filled with ghostly chatter.
That's right, she had been reborn, and she could hear ghosts talking.
With nowhere else to go and starving and freezing, she had no choice but to contact the person she'd confessed to eight years ago, unsuccessfully.
"Hey, little trainee, it's your mentor."
"Don't hang up. I'm not a scammer. I really am your mentor."
There was no sound from the other end.
Zhong Yu pulled her phone away from her ear to make sure the call had actually connected.
After a long while, a low voice filled with a sigh finally came through.
"Zhong Yu!"
Eight years ago, Lin Yuzhi graduated from the police academy and was assigned to the station, where she became his mentor.
Back then, he was youthful and reserved, adorably earnest. He blushed whenever she teased him, and everyone at the station loved to joke about the two of them.
Later, she took it seriously and confessed to him, only to scare him into avoiding her for days.
When they met again eight years later, Lin Yuzhi had shed all his boyish awkwardness and become the mature, steady captain of the criminal investigation team.
But... he'd also gotten a lot thicker-skinned.
He used to be so innocent and simple, always blushing, barely saying a word, and keeping his distance. Now he had no respect for his senior, calling her by her name, and had even picked up a criminal's obsessive streak, constantly clinging to her.
But Zhong Yu, who had her heart set on solving cases, said: Cut it out!
All she wanted now was to catch the killer and make the "ghostly chatter" in her ears disappear.
After being reborn, the dead kept whispering the secrets of the past into Zhong Yu's ears...
