Big news at Seigaku: The transfer student is the child star "Kasugabe Masumi," who has grown up in the public eye across Japan!
Masumi looked at Tezuka, rumored to be so stern he could pass for the school's discipline master, and thought his air reminded her of her big brother.
While her classmates were too nervous to speak to him, she gave him a light pat on the shoulder, just as she would her own big brother. "Tezuka, you should smile!"
A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, but Masumi still noticed the corner of his mouth rise by one pixel.
Masumi also discovered that although Tezuka was serious, he was always willing to help!
He even gritted his teeth and read a script like "The Student Council President Falls in Love with Me," then agreed to give her material for it.
Later, one pursued a career in professional tennis while the other made her mark in the entertainment industry. It wasn't until she was invited to toss the coin at the Australian Open that they reunited in public.
In Japanese, which neither her opponent nor the umpire could understand, Masumi asked him, "Tezuka, why are you still so serious? You should smile!"
Only then did the spectators and reporters realize, to their amazement, that Tezuka Kunimitsu could smile, and that his smile could be so gentle.
Excerpt from Tezuka Kunimitsu's diary:
I reunited with Masumi today. I think I finally understand what those feelings I had as a boy were. Luckily, it's not too late. I'll go for it without letting my guard down.
Reading guide:

2. The first half takes place at school, the second half in the city
3. Very little match coverage, with the focus mainly on romance
