Pili/Chronicles of the Five Ways of Hao Zheng Watching the Drama

When Gu Azhu was five, the old scholar from the neighboring mountain kicked him right to the gates of Haozheng Five Paths and told him he wasn't allowed home until he graduated.

The sharp-tongued Jade Confucian Venerable picked up his destined nanny (crossed out), disciple. He said the name Gu Azhu was too vulgar for his disciple, so he gave Azhu a courtesy name: Yuli.

And so Gu Azhu got a new name: Gu Yuli.

-

When he was eighteen, the world fell into chaos, and even Haozheng Five Paths couldn't stay out of it. The Jade Confucian Venerable gave his foolish disciple a few instructions.

"I'm going out to do something important. Stay home and cook for me. Don't go anywhere."

He stayed home for half a year, poking his head out every day to see if his master had come back yet. At last, Gu Azhu couldn't wait any longer, so he went to find Director Xia at Defeng Ancient Path. He wasn't as capable as his fellow disciples, who could go out and fight, so he stayed behind to handle logistics at Defeng Ancient Path. Every day, he wrote letters to his master, worried that his master wouldn't be able to live without him.

-

In the winter when he was twenty, Director Xia, who had always looked after him, took his own life. The Jade Confucian Venerable led his disciples away from Haozheng Five Paths and shut themselves inside.

The following year's Spring Festival, Azhu opened the door and found the Jade Confucian Venerable's lifelike corpse, along with a suicide note on the table.

Gu Azhu continued sweeping and cleaning Wuxia Residence as usual, as if its master had never left. In the hundredth year, he opened a private school in a nearby village. He began returning to Wuxia Residence less often.

-

Several centuries later, a descendant of Director Xia knocked on Wuxia Residence's bamboo gate, and the Jade Confucian Venerable came back to life.

Yu Lijing visited Wuxia Residence and found Gu Azhu teaching at the private school.

Yu Lijing: You knew the Venerable had died, and you knew he came back to life. Why didn't you stop him?

Gu Azhu: Because he is my master, and I am his disciple.

Xuanxia CP, Huang Wen and Xia are a platonic pairing. The protagonist is just a bystander watching the drama, with no romance. Basically, this story was written to set up a pairing. If I can't keep a short story going, I'll just end the series.

It doesn't involve much of the main canon plot, just an invented backstory. There are many original characters and made-up relationships.

Theme: Master, please stop scolding me. I'm learning already.
