The shou's father was an elder of an immortal sect. The shou was born with poor spiritual roots, and even forcibly nourishing them with pills would only let him live to around three hundred years old.
The shou had envied his senior brothers in the sect since childhood, but everyone treated him coldly. They thought he was a delicate flower that could shatter at a touch, and his father was fiercely protective of him, insisting that no matter who was right or wrong, the shou could never be at fault.
The other disciples thought the shou's life would be short, and that he would only be a passerby in their lives. They didn't want to get too attached to him and risk creating inner demons.
After being repeatedly treated coldly, the shou grew somewhat twisted and domineering, spoiled and unreasonable. Then one day, during the sect's selection trials, he fell for an Immortal Lord who had returned from facing his tribulation, radiant and untainted. The shou was determined to become the Immortal Lord's disciple. He tried with all his might, but could never measure up to another disciple.
Later, the shou decided that if he couldn't become the Immortal Lord's disciple, then he would become his cultivation partner. So he found a chance to sleep with the Immortal Lord.
When the Immortal Lord's cultivation broke through and he ascended to the upper realm, he took the shou with him, but remained just as cold toward him.
Then the shou discovered that he was carrying the Immortal Lord's child, and happily told him.
The very next day, the Immortal Lord cut the child out of him.
Only at the very end did the shou learn that he had merely been one of the tribulations the Immortal Lord faced while descending to the mortal realm. The Immortal Lord's destined partner was his little disciple, the darling of the entire immortal sect.
The shou was reborn after his death, returning to his youth. He gained a spirit pet cub who followed him everywhere, and together they explored ruins and hunted for treasures, acquiring countless opportunities. He also surpassed his own limits and became an immortal sect prodigy admired by all!
Meanwhile, the Immortal Lord had yet to return. He was still facing his tribulation in the mortal realm as a prince beset by hardships.
The entire immortal sect devoted its strength to helping the Immortal Lord overcome his tribulation, but no matter who went, nothing worked.
So the shou was sent. He couldn't stand the sight of the Immortal Lord and had no qualms about making his hardships even worse!
But the spirit pet cub wouldn't stand for it, and tearfully insisted that the shou couldn't bully his father.
The shou was dumbfounded.
It turned out the little spirit who had followed him all along was actually the child he had given birth to in his previous life. The Immortal Lord hadn't rejected the child back then. It was just that if the child had been born normally, it would have drained the shou's spiritual energy and caused him to die young.
Seeing the Immortal Lord, whom he had tormented until he was on the verge of death, the shou was at a loss. He asked the cub, "So what am I supposed to do now?"
The cub pondered for a moment. "At this point, there's nothing else we can do. Have me first, then we'll talk."
The shou pinched his nose, slept with the gong, and ran off after getting pregnant.
When the Immortal Lord returned from his tribulation, he spotted the shou at a glance in the crowd.
The Immortal Lord found him and asked, "While I was facing my tribulation in the mortal realm, I had a romantic entanglement with someone. He looked exactly like you."
The shou: "Pah! You shameless scoundrel. You think I'm a stand-in for your mortal-world lover? Get lost!"
The gong: "..."
The shou had no desire to pay the gong any attention, nor did he want to get involved in the gong's fate.
The problem was, the cub in his belly was far too powerful. His cultivation was nowhere near enough to carry the cub, and the child kept damaging him in return.
What a pair of father and son you are, making me suffer like this!
The shou had no choice but to slink back to the Immortal Lord. Tugging on his robe, he whispered, "Um, actually, I don't mind being your stand-in, as long as you give me just a little bit of magical power. Okay?"
On the day the truth came out, the shou finally learned that the so-called darling of the immortal sect from his previous life, the gong's little disciple, was merely a transmigrator from another world who had come to win people over.
