Raising a Husband as a Military Household [Matriarchy]

Xu Hu, the head of the modern Xu family, died, while the ancient-era scholar Xu Hu came back to life.

It was the fifth year of the Mingde era. The emperor had just issued a conscription order requiring every household to provide one woman.

That very night, the eldest daughter of the Xu family, Xu Zhi, climbed over the wall to evade conscription, leaving her newlywed husband sitting on their wedding bed, wiping away tears.

The yamen runners would come to register conscripts the next morning. If one person was missing, then everyone in the Xu family would die, whether it was Xu Hu, bedridden and gravely ill, or her new brother-in-law, the groom.

There was no choice. The sickly Xu Hu could only drag herself out of bed.

She went to the village outskirts, found a recently deceased woman whose build resembled her own, and secretly brought her home.

She changed the woman's clothes to her own and concealed her face.

Just then, her newlywed brother-in-law heard a noise and came in holding an oil lamp.

Xu Hu, now wearing her sister's clothes, turned and raised a finger to her lips.

Shh...

Brother-in-law, from today on, I am my sister.
