Cousin for a Thousand Years

Mu Xiuyu grew up without her mother’s love or her father’s care. At sixteen, she was sent to live with her maternal grandmother. Young and inexperienced, she met her cousin just as she was discovering love.

At first, she was simply lonely and wanted someone to keep her company. His gentle manners and thoughtfulness drew her in, and having grown up without affection, she couldn’t help developing unusual feelings for and becoming dependent on her cousin.

Then one day, she saw him turn a servant boy into a human swine with her own eyes. The boy had done nothing more than accidentally spill tea on him. Even after his cruelty was exposed, he could still smile and ask her, “Little sister, what’s wrong?”

In that moment, he seemed terrifying. She wanted nothing more than to flee from him at once.

To stay alive, she pretended to agree with him and acted as affectionate with him as ever. All the while, she searched desperately for a way to escape. Then one day, her grandmother suddenly arranged a marriage for her. She would be a concubine in a wealthy household, but it was still a way out, so she pretended to accept the arrangement reluctantly.

At the wedding banquet, her cousin looked at her with a gloomy, resentful gaze filled with love and hate. That very night, he suddenly broke into her bridal chamber and whispered in her ear, “Little sister, you want to leave me, don’t you?”

Mu Xiuyu’s mind went blank in an instant, as if she’d been struck by lightning.
