After he let her out of the painting, Shen Yunling learned that he was a great general at court. Every day, when he returned from court, he brought her beautiful clothes and jewelry. One day, as he styled her hair, he looked at the timid, fearful girl in the bronze mirror and suddenly said, "The name Yunling doesn't suit you at all."

Shen Yunling lowered her head sadly and murmured, "I have no parents. I chose the name myself."

Su Yun's hand paused as he combed her hair. "...It's a lovely name."

The girl's eyes lit up in the bronze mirror. She didn't know what it meant to like someone or to love them. She only knew she wanted to be with him forever.

Later, she gathered her courage and held out an embroidered ball she had made herself. "Su Yun, would you like me? I want to marry you."

But the boy simply replied, "I won't marry you."

Later still, he wished he could place every wonderful thing in the world before her, but all he got in return was, "Su Yun, you don't have to do this."

The moment he rejected her, he regretted it. He wanted to tell her that he liked her too, so much that she was his everything.
