Safe and Sound

(Be warned: this is a bad ending, and someone dies. Set in a fictional world. Feel free to bookmark!)

The wind can carry many scents. At the hospital, Qiao Wei had smelled too many: the perfume of people passing by, the sweet scent of trees in bloom. Then one day, a scent he'd never smelled before appeared.

Yi Shi carried a scent Qiao Wei couldn't quite describe. It was like delicious junk food: addictive if you smelled it too often, yet somehow healthy.

As Qiao Wei's caregiver, Yi Shi's job each day was to keep him alive. That way, he could earn one more day's pay.
