School life in the beginning, then a second chance at love after a breakup
Small-town fiction / bittersweet romance
"Hands this beautiful mustn't get hurt. It'd be a shame if they were scarred."
At first, Fang Shuhe carefully held Shi Qingxi's hand, thinking just that.
The pampered young lady Shi Qingxi never lifted a finger around the house. Her smile was gentle but distant, and she wouldn't even touch anything in the countryside.
Later, those hands were only ever used on Fang Shuhe: holding her, embracing her, teasing her until she was damp as a dewy sprout at daybreak.
Later still, under the blazing sun, they worked with their backs to the sky and their faces to the soil.
Fang Shuhe gripped the dirt-smudged wrist and sneered, "Ms. Shi's hands are so precious. I couldn't afford to pay for it if they got hurt."
It was the sixth year since they had parted. The renowned businesswoman Shi Qingxi had left her mansion behind to follow a young woman onto a variety show about rural revitalization, where she would scoop up handfuls of earth and plant lychee trees.
[Little Scene]
At eighteen, Fang Shuhe thought Shi Qingxi was unreasonable. "You're the one who tells me to leave every time!"
Shi Qingxi smiled languidly. "Such an obedient girl. I tell you to leave, and off you go."
At twenty-five, Fang Shuhe covered the camera in their room, took off the microphone, and spent the night in bed with the variety show's biggest investor.
Shi Qingxi's face flushed, tears glistening in her eyes as she trembled, "Get out."
Fang Shuhe chuckled, her hands never stopping. "You tell me to get out, and you think I'll just go?"
