[Sunny, naturally flirtatious straight woman vs. sharp-tongued, love-struck male drama queen]
When Feng Huai's team leader resigns, everyone assumes she'll take over. But Liang Yan, the heir to the company's major investor, suddenly swoops in and takes the position.
A close colleague speaks up for her. “You've worked here for so long. Whether you look at your contributions or your hard work, you should have gotten promoted this time. Why should some outsider parachuting in take your place?”
Feng Huai doesn't feel wronged at all. She works even harder than before, and does so willingly.
On a rainy night after working late, Liang Yan drives Feng Huai home. The car can only stop outside the narrow alley, so Liang Yan walks her to the entrance of her building under his umbrella.
Liang Yan's slender fingers grip the wooden handle. His large black umbrella shields a tiny space in the rain, just big enough for the two of them. Feng Huai sees the umbrella tilted toward her and one of Liang Yan's sleeves soaked through. Her heart flutters. After stammering for a while, she blushes and reaches out to brush the water off one side of his coat.
He grabs her wrist in midair. The motion-sensor light by the entrance comes on, and Feng Huai sees Liang Yan's face. A flash of displeasure crosses his handsome features. Frowning slightly, he looks at her. “Feng Huai, I was going to pretend I hadn't noticed, but now you're at risk of being accused of sexual harassment at work.”
Feng Huai spends a while feeling down after her heartbreak, but soon loses herself in the sunny smile of a new intern and his repeated “Sis.”
In the crowded elevator during the morning rush, Feng Huai is pressed close to her young intern. The moment she steps out, she meets Liang Yan's gloomy gaze.
The next second, he grabs her wrist and pulls her into the stairwell.
Liang Yan corners her against the wall, his expression frighteningly dark. “So now you're not harassing your superior, you're harassing your subordinate instead?”
Feng Huai hesitates between arguing her case and cursing him out. But as soon as she opens her mouth, he covers it with his own.
Feng Huai's eyes fly open in alarm. Liang Yan's face is right before her. His eyes are closed, his thick, dark lashes trembling ever so slightly, and Feng Huai's heart softens.
Their relationship starts off incredibly sweet, but before long, Liang Yan's antics become more than Feng Huai can take.
“Every holiday, birthday, and anniversary has to be spent together. You're busy? What could possibly be more important than me?”
“You have to keep your distance from your male friends. Don't contact them unless it's necessary, and if you meet up, I have to be there.”
“If I got ugly and poor, would you still love me? Feng Huai! Why did you hesitate?”
“If you're talking about work with a colleague, then talk about work. Why are you smiling so happily?”
Feng Huai grows tired of Liang Yan's constant demands, jealousy, and mood swings.
On her first business trip after being promoted, Liang Yan blocks her suitcase at the door.
He stops her with an impassive face. “If you insist on going on a business trip with him... then we're breaking up.”
Feng Huai secretly breathes a sigh of relief and quickly takes the opening he's given her. “All right. I'll pack up and move out when I get back from the trip.”
The door shuts with a muffled thud, followed by utter silence.
Liang Yan stands motionless in front of the door for a long while, then smashes their photo together.
When Feng Huai returns from her trip, Liang Yan, who hardly ever catches a cold, is burning up and delirious in bed.
Feng Huai goes to get some fever medicine, but Liang Yan shakily gets up and wraps his arms around her from behind, lowering his head into the crook of her neck.
His grip is so tight that Feng Huai can barely breathe. Just as she tries to pull away, she feels something wet against her neck.
Liang Yan's voice is hoarse and trembling with accusation. “Feng Huai... You can't use me and then abandon me.”
