He Xu suppressed the urge to frown. The curve of his lips made the girl blush and her heart race. "Thank you for your affection, but I'm not looking for a girlfriend. You should take these back."
The girl shoved everything into He Xu's arms, then turned and ran off, blushing, before he could refuse.
The smile vanished from his face in an instant. He Xu curled his lips and deftly tore the love letter in his hands into pieces. The pink scraps fluttered into the trash like snowflakes. Just as he raised his hand to throw away the chocolates, he suddenly froze.
Farther away, a girl with her hair in a low ponytail sat on the grass with her back against an old tree, its branches thick with leaves. Their eyes met, and she blinked her bright, watery eyes.
After a pause, He Xu lowered the hand holding the chocolates. His phoenix eyes narrowed, and he smiled gently. "A girl's private letter should be torn up. You can have the chocolates, little miss."
Later, Xiang Ci pointed to the tall, slender boy beside her and introduced him, slightly shyly. His name was Tang Jiran, and he was her boyfriend.
For the first time, He Xu couldn't control his expression.
That evening, He Xu drank glass after glass with a friend at a bar. His friend teased him, "Stop drinking. If Xiao Xiang Ci thinks I've been getting you drunk, she'll come yell at me."
He Xu was still smiling, but his friend suddenly froze. "He Xu, why are you crying?"
"If your name is Ci, why have you never shown me the slightest compassion?"
