Every Day, I Stop the City Chief's Plan to Destroy the World

After working diligently for the Quick Transmigration Bureau for years, System X was only 100 points away from applying for retirement. He'd been in a great mood lately, even sending ^_^ emoticons to the Hosts under his command, despite usually being quite serious.

He never expected that one day, a bug would turn a System into a Host.

Stuck in a bubble world with no way back, he became Xu Xi, an NPC in I'm the Mayor, an open-ended city-building virtual reality game. His world mission was:

System X was an excellent System. He'd guided over a hundred Hosts and helped them complete nearly a thousand Quick Transmigration missions. This time, his task was to build a city in a city-building game. He figured it shouldn't be hard.

After all, who played a city-building game without wanting to build a city of their own, watch it grow and prosper bit by bit, and feel satisfied with their work?

To retire, System X decided to take on two jobs at once.

Half a month later, Xu Xi, now the mayor's secretary, gazed at Bright City's desolate land, stalled orders, chaotic construction projects, and a barrage of angry messages from its citizens. His face darkened.

Across from him, the mayor sucked on a lollipop and leisurely browsed citizen profiles, commenting on their looks. "Tsk, why are all the NPCs so ugly? Our little Xu is still the best-looking. No wonder I picked him as my personal secretary."

The personal secretary, whose looks were rated 92, remained expressionless and slammed the documents down on the desk.

"Is this your decision?"

The mayor gave it a casual glance. "Yeah."

Xu Xi pointed to a line of text, his voice cold. "What does 'build a virus lab, work at full capacity to develop a zombie virus, and spread it across the world' mean?"

The man's hand stopped as it swiped across the game interface. He blinked, his eyes bright as the moon, and smiled.

"Isn't it fun?"

Xu Xi closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose.

Of all the things, he had to run into an antisocial personality playing a zombie siege in a city-building game. The mayor held all the decision-making power, so Xu Xi couldn't advance the city's development or stop the player from ending the world. What was he supposed to do about his mission?

Later, he found the perfect solution.

The room was dim. Xu Xi was pinned between the wall and the other man's arm, his expression calm as he negotiated: "Build a factory, and I'll give you a kiss."

Jiang Kaiji coaxed him softly. "Kiss me first."

Xu Xi stood his ground. "Build it first."

Much later, looking down at Bright City as it began to take shape, Xu Xi pressed his swollen lips together and nodded with satisfaction. Sure enough, the conquest team's Host experience was the most useful.
