The day Ni Mi discovers she's pregnant is the seventh anniversary of her relationship with Du Youkai.

After yet another night together, Ni Mi lies awake, watching the sleeping man beside her.
She starts selling off all her homes, cars, jewelry, and designer handbags, then emails him her resignation.
"Are you sure you want to leave?" Du Youkai asks. His right hand trembles uncontrollably as he lights a cigarette, barely holding back his fury. "Ni Mi, I gave you resources and connections, helped you clean up all those messes, and brought you back home from Wall Street. I didn't do all that so you could go home, get married, have kids, and wait on your in-laws!"
"Not everyone is like you, known as a 'money-printing machine with no feelings.'" She smiles, remarkably calm. "Mr. Du, I'm just an ordinary person."
"Are you really that set on getting married?" This is the second time he's asked her.
She smiles but says nothing.
"Fine." Du Youkai grits his teeth, grabs his suit jacket, and heads for the door. "You're going to marry someone anyway. Ni Mi, bring your ID. We're getting married."
Only later, in the eleventh year of her unrequited love for him and the eighth year of their casual sex arrangement, does Ni Mi realize that Du Youkai is human too, a man... with flesh, blood, and feelings.
