Even Monsters Have to Make a Living

The world underwent a cataclysmic change. Countless living beings either perished or fell into slumber amid the upheaval. When they awoke, the world had changed beyond recognition. Even great demons had to come down from the mountains and earn an honest living for money.

The White Tiger was a skilled fighter, but he'd always dreamed of retirement. Now was the perfect time.

He opened a flower shop. It went under, so he turned it into a flower-cake shop. That went under too.

Others had it even worse. Kunpeng got tricked into a pyramid scheme while hauling bricks, and Qinglong sold seafood, only to get reported for having rare protected species on his stall. He earned little and ended up owing a hefty fine.

This wouldn't do. After much soul-searching, the White Tiger shut himself away to study and prepared to break into the market again.

Before making his comeback, he turned into a little white cat and conned a rich person into feeding him. He called it market research.

This time, the great White Tiger was going to win back everything he'd lost.

Word has it there's a little restaurant in the suburbs that's unbelievably delicious. If you don't try it, you'll regret it for the rest of your life.

Netizens scoffed. How good could it be? Just another ad. And who'd travel all that way?

Then

[It's amazing!]

[Ugh, if only I'd believed the hype sooner. Now I'm still stuck queuing outside.]

[Chicken soup! This is what chicken soup is supposed to taste like! So fresh!]

[These shrimp are huge! So tender! So fresh! The shrimp I've had before don't even count as shrimp!]

[It's so delicious! Great food, beautiful scenery, and gorgeous people. Perfection!]

The restaurant took off, and as an outstanding example of fitting into human society, the White Tiger naturally helped the others out too.

Those who could supplied ingredients, the fast fliers delivered takeout, and the strong ones carried plates and served dishes. Business boomed, and the demons' lives grew brighter by the day.

But when it came to making it big, the Phoenix was still the best. He was reborn and went straight into a human life, becoming the richest person around. Great and lesser demons alike looked at him with envy and resentment.

Phoenix: "..."

White Tiger: (¬_¬) Stare.

Phoenix was annoyed. "You left without saying goodbye..."

"Objection. When I left, I pressed a little cat paw onto the word 'leave' that you wrote."

Phoenix sighed. "What's mine is yours anyway."

Theme: Love life.
