The FIA Formula One World Championship, or F1 for short, is the highest-level annual circuit racing series organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is the pinnacle of motorsport today, combining cutting-edge technology, teamwork, driver skill, and courage. It is also the dream racing series of countless drivers.
Qi Yichi is a prodigy who made his name at a young age. In his first F3 race, he blew three tires in a row, earning a reputation as a terrifying tire-bursting machine. His lifelong dream is to win the F1 championship.
His hometown's rugged, mountainous terrain and indescribably difficult roads are a breeding ground for racing drivers.
When you climb onto the back of your dad's dirt bike at three, leave nineteen flowerpots in the dust on a go-kart at four, then pass a husky on a winding mountain road in a plastic convertible at five, completing the first overtake of your life... you'd fall in love with the sound of an engine roaring at full speed, too.
Now just seventeen, Qi Yichi already has twelve years of racing experience. Apart from the curse that makes him blow a tire in every test race, his racing career has gone smoothly. After dominating a number of championships, he advances to F2, with a shot at winning the title in his rookie year and then naturally earning an F1 seat, becoming one of the twenty best drivers in the world.
Of course, since I'm putting it that way, he obviously doesn't win the championship.
He wins four races out of eleven but still doesn't take the overall title. Even the toughest driver would break down and cry in the cockpit. Qi Yichi thinks he's never been this hard done by in his life. If he'd known his rivals would be so good this year, he would have waited another year before coming to F2.
If he can't beat them, can't he at least avoid them?
Still, as the 2017 F2 runner-up, he catches Renault's eye and gets invited into the paddock.
Touching the pink-and-blue race car he once dreamed of, Qi Yichi casts aside his earlier unworthy thoughts and silently resolves never to come second again.
So the very next day, in qualifying, he doesn't even manage to come second.
1. The blurb is provisional. I haven't settled on the exact plot yet, but it will probably still be a record of Little Qi suffering through life on Earth.
2. It starts in F2, then he joins Alpine (Renault). His love interest should be the mysterious driver who kept Little Qi from winning the title despite his four race wins (tentative).
3. The timeline differs slightly from reality. The racing calendar is mostly unchanged, but there will be quite a bit of made-up plot.
4. I plan to start writing around September this year. I think I'll have finished the other story by then, so I can move right on to this one. I'll polish the blurb then, too.
Theme: The hymn of humanity is the hymn of courage
