The Nightcats are a notorious dangerous species in the interstellar world, famous for their nimble speed, high combat ability, and stunning beauty.
That is the setting of the novel The Galaxy's Number One Human Darling. And when Ye Mao opened her eyes, she had become a newborn Nightcat, a baby of a nonhuman species.
Ye Mao: "..."
Other people transmigrate into a character with the same name. What does it mean that I have the same name as an entire species?!
But she was here now, and there was no going back anytime soon, so Ye Mao could only resign herself to life here.
At first, things were fine. Her peers merely excluded her because of her white fur, so different from that of other Nightcats, and her unusual love of sunbathing.
Later, they started fighting in front of her. Every day, a different group would fight, with the loser dropping out and the winner carrying on. This went on for a long time.
So she quietly moved farther away from the fighting Nightcats.
Then one day, the last Nightcat standing, covered in injuries, came up to her and looked at her nervously. "I'm the strongest of this group of Nightcats. Would you accept my courtship and become my mate when we reach adulthood?"
Ye Mao: "..."
Oh, so this was the Nightcat courtship ritual? She'd thought they were trying to intimidate her.
She firmly rejected him, explaining that she wasn't a furry and had no desire to get involved with nonhumans. Her ideal type was human.
"You say that like you're human yourself..." he muttered dejectedly.
Only then did Ye Mao remember that humans in this world were nearly extinct. The few human communities left were all on the capital planet.
Driven by her longing for fellow humans, and because she was thoroughly fed up with the Nightcats trying to court her, she had no choice but to get into the First Military Academy.
Ye Mao had barely had time to celebrate escaping her courting fellow species when she realized that she, a little country cat, had seen far too little of the world and knew nothing of its dangers. The Nightcats' courtship was already among the most gentlemanly methods in the universe.
The big-city crowd just snatched their targets outright. Win a fight, and you could drag them away to mate.
Ye Mao, who had no idea why she was so popular and kept getting challenged to fights: To protect myself, I guess I'll just have to become the strongest in the galaxy.
Also, I really don't want to accept the advances of nonhumans!!
*
Ye Mao later met the legendary, critically endangered humans.
Then she refused to believe that beings capable of punching a building in half were human.
Ye Mao: Humans are supposed to be a perfect species, with fragile bodies, powerful minds, and a compelling contradiction! How could they be Super Saiyans like these?!
The human looked at her sadly. "Don't humans need to evolve? So, have you accepted my courtship request?"
* The protagonist's fixation on humans has a reason.
* Nonhuman species in the universe look no different from ordinary people most of the time. They only show nonhuman traits when emotionally agitated or in heat.
* Nonhuman species in the universe have weak reproductive urges and no heat cycles until they encounter their destined mate and their courtship protocols activate. Once activated, males will uncontrollably do anything to win their partner's favor. They will not stop until their partner becomes pregnant, and this only happens with one person.
* There is an ABO setting, but it applies only to human society.
* No pregnancy plot.
