The two of them stumble their way toward high school.
Then comes the flustered, restless turmoil of adolescence, a flutter that belongs only to youth: pure and ardent, yet full of helpless confusion.
Youth is bittersweet. A single kiss is enough to make the heart ache with longing.
Age eighteen.
"Lele, I'm going south with my aunt." Jiang Yueming chokes up. He sees the boy's hand clench slightly, his eyelashes quiver. "Do well on your exams. Get into a school in Beijing and leave this place. I'll wait for you."
Li Leshan studies as hard as he can, enduring one day after another. At last, he leaves the small county town and boards a train bound for Beijing. The provincial capital's East Station is enormous, and Platform 29A seems to stretch all the way to America.
But wherever he looks, however hard he searches, Jiang Yueming is nowhere to be found.
