A young man with a bright future.
That was the first impression twenty-seven-year-old Zhou Ying gave to outsiders. He seemed to stride along the crest of the times, with every step taking him down a broad, smooth road.
He had everything, and every choice he made was right.
Hundreds of thousands, even millions, of people poured into this city every year. They competed until they were twisted into knots and ground to dust. In the end, only a handful managed to rise above the rest. Zhou Ying was one of them.
And he had risen beautifully.
How could this man be so handsome?
How could this man be so talented?
How could this man be so rich?
Everyone was curious whether Zhou Ying's earlier life had been just as smooth and fortunate.
Recently, a topic had come up for discussion at the company: "If you could go back to your childhood, what would you want to say to your younger self?"
People had all kinds of answers: Study hard, and whatever you do, don't date too young; go back to before your family home was demolished and make sure to build a few more rooms; don't fall out with your elementary school classmate over a popsicle, because they'll end up being the HR manager at the company where you interview; choose computer science when you first pick a major, not civil engineering...
The discussion was in full swing when Zhou Ying passed by and heard the chatter.
The whole room fell silent at once.
The slightly bolder Xiao Liu stepped forward and asked what Zhou Ying would say.
Zhou Ying paused.
He stood at the break room entrance, sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. His suit was immaculate, his features cool and composed, and he seemed to embody the word "success."
Everyone waited for him to say something profound. They wanted to hear what kind of life lesson a winner like him could offer. They wanted to know whether he had been brilliant from childhood or had only become brilliant later on.
"Boring."
The break room was silent for two seconds. Then everyone scattered like startled birds, hurrying back to their desks. Some worked on PowerPoint presentations, some wrote proposals, and some went right back to slacking off. No one dared look in that direction again.
Boring.
It really was boring.
Discussing a pointless topic was just a waste of time. Going back to the past, or anything like that, was something only a fool would believe in.
Zhou Ying turned around and thought for a moment.
Actually, he had no pearls of wisdom to offer. There was nothing.
If he had to say something, he would probably tell his younger self to drink pesticide and die as soon as possible.
And then Zhou Ying really did transmigrate.
