The Wedding

Su Baozhen died in the first year after the empress was formally installed.

With her dead, the emperor no longer had to pretend and could finally choose a worthy empress openly.

Did she hate him? Not really.

After five years of marriage, there was nothing left between them.

When she opened her eyes, she was fifteen again.

It was still the same boat heading to the capital. At the nearby pier, she had once saved Li Yun, who was gravely wounded.

Baozhen instructed her steward, "There's no need to dock. Continue north as usual."

Given a fresh start, she wanted a brand-new life and a brand-new husband.

Li Yun, life and death are in fate's hands. Good luck.

Since the Tang and Song dynasties, men marrying into their wives' families had become common.

Even among aristocratic and meritorious families, there were handsome young men of noble bearing who made fine marriages as live-in husbands, bringing joy and fulfillment to both families.

When Helan Yan heard he was to be promised in marriage, he flew into a rage. "I have two hands and two feet. Why should I go live in someone else's house and spend my days watching them?"

Become a live-in husband? Absolutely not!

The day Su Baozhen came to visit, she met a blockhead.

The blockhead stood before her, his proud head slowly dipping. His breathing grew ragged, and his voice was barely a whisper. "Y-You're Sister Su?"

Much later, Helan Yan returned victorious from the battlefield and told everyone he met, "Don't call me Helan Yan. Call me Su Yan! I take my wife's surname!"

Li Yun got what he wanted and ascended the throne. Everything should have gone smoothly, yet he always felt something was missing.

One day, while traveling incognito, he encountered that useless Helan Yan and the woman who had yet to marry him.

The woman smiled sweetly, and suddenly he remembered.

It was his empress who was missing.
