A Thousand Charms and a Hundred Affections

After her family fell on hard times, A Bao married a scholar. The scholar was fair, handsome, and always wore a friendly smile. A Bao had been raised as a rich young lady. Suddenly, she found herself in a poor, down-at-the-heels household, unable to do so much as wash rice or cook a meal. In other households, the wife got up at dawn to wash clothes and cook, but in A Bao's home, the scholar did all the cooking and housework. The neighbors whispered behind their backs: "What kind of wife did he marry? He spent a hundred taels of silver and brought home a pampered princess. Let's see how long it takes Zhao Lang to divorce her." A Bao heard them and blushed furiously. That night, she murmured, "I don't know how to take care of anyone. In the future... will you divorce me?" The scholar lowered his eyes with a smile and gently rubbed her jade-white feet in a basin of water. "It doesn't matter if you don't know how to take care of me, my dear. I'll take care of you. Divorce? Even if I died, I would never let you go." A Bao always believed there was no one in the world as kind and good-hearted as the scholar. He wouldn't even bear to step on an ant. Until the day the northwestern army laid siege to the city. The ferocious King of the Northwest cut off the emperor's head with a single slash. A Bao secretly glanced at the king atop the city wall and saw that he looked exactly like the scholar. The male lead won't become emperor, because he's a househusband who has to uphold the virtues expected of a husband. Striving for power matters less than supporting his wife and raising their child.
