Playing Nice to Hook a Rich Daddy

The two families' elders are discussing the wedding in the living room. Laughter and polite conversation drift through the half-closed kitchen door.

Luo Jia stands by the sink, still holding a strawberry he hasn't finished washing. The running water is loud.

Gu Huaizhi comes up behind him and braces both hands on the counter on either side of him, his lips almost touching Luo Jia's ear.

"I even brought my parents here," he says in a low voice. "If you don't agree now, I'll go out there and tell them..."

He pauses, his breath brushing the back of Luo Jia's ear.

"How you seduced me back then."

Luo Jia's fingers freeze.

"Your ex-boyfriend," Gu Huaizhi adds, his voice so light it sounds like a laugh. "You choose."

Luo Jia is silent for two seconds.

"We never dated."

"So what?" Gu Huaizhi tilts his head slightly. "Who do you think they'll believe, you or me?"
